River Reports – November 3, 2010

 

North Santiam River -11/03/2010

The North Santiam is running high due to runoff from the recent storms. Salmon and Steelhead runs are the largest we’ve seen in years. Coho will likely be moving into the smaller tributaries now that their levels are rising.

Species: Rainbow, Cutthroat, Steelhead, Coho

Hatches: October Caddis, Brown Caddis, Tan Caddis, March Brown, Pale Morning and Evening Duns

Flies to use:

Trout – Elk & Mallard, Soft Hackles, Double Wing EHC, Goddard Caddis, Yak Caddis.
Steelhead/Salmon: Bunny Matuka, Hairwings, ESL, Skaters

Flow: 3,697cfs @ Mehama
Depth: 4.64 ft @ Mehama
Temp: 46.2 degrees
Clarity: Fair
Wading: Dangerous

Siletz River – 11/03/2010

The Siletz is running high due to recent rains. Coastal rivers are seeing early Winter Steelhead returns along with some lingering Salmon and Sea Run Cutthroat.

Species: Steelhead, Salmon, Sea Run Cutthroat, Rainbow Trout

Hatches: BWO, Brown Caddis, March Brown

Flies to use:
Trout – Biot BWO, Double Wing EHC.
Steelhead/Salmon: String Leaches, Matuka’s, Hairwings, Eyed Egg

Flow: 3,016 cfs
Depth: 6.47 ft
Wading: Dangerous
Clarity: Fair

Little North Santiam 11/03/2010

The Little North is still running high due to recent rain, but a few days of dry weather and it’ll get back into shape quickly.

Species: Steelhead, Rainbow Trout, Coho Salmon

Hatches: BWO, October Caddis, March Brown

Flies to use:
Trout – Biot BWO, Double Wing EHC, Yak Caddis
Steelhead/Coho: String Leaches, Matuka’s, Hairwings

Flow: 1,130 cfs
Depth: 5.11 ft
Temp: 49.3 degrees
Wading: Dangerous
Clarity: Fair
