North Santiam River Report – 10/25/2010

The North Santiam is running high due to runoff from the recent storms. Salmon and Steelhead runs are the largest we’ve seen in years. Coho will likely be moving into the smaller tributaries now that their levels are rising.

Species: Rainbow, Cutthroat, Steelhead, Coho 

Hatches: October Caddis, Brown Caddis, Tan Caddis, March Brown, Pale Morning and Evening Duns 

Flies to use: 

Trout – Elk & Mallard, Soft Hackles, Double Wing EHC, Goddard Caddis, Yak Caddis.
Steelhead/Salmon: Bunny Matuka, Hairwings, ESL, Skaters 

Flow: 4,126 cfs @ Mehama
Depth: 4.84 ft @ Mehama
Temp: 44.2 degrees
Clarity: Fair
Wading: Dangerous 

Little North Santiam 10/25/2010

The Little North is blown out. The rain this weekend was very heavy at times and is expected to continue for the next few days.

Species: Steelhead, Rainbow Trout, Coho Salmon 

Hatches: BWO, Brown Caddis, March Brown 

Flies to use:
Trout – Biot BWO, Double Wing EHC.
Steelhead/Coho: String Leaches, Matuka’s, Hairwings 

Flow: 1,520 cfs
Depth: 5.47 ft
Temp: 47.3 degrees
Wading: Dangerous
Clarity: Poor 

 
 

  

Breitenbush River Report – 10/25/2010

The Breitenbush is on the rise due to this weekend’s storm. It’s doubtful to be back in shape before the season closes next Sunday.

Species: Rainbow Trout 

Hatches: Caddis, Stonefly, Mayflies 

Flies to use: Adams, Double Wing EHC, PT Nymph, Prince Nymph
Flow: 1,440 cfs
Depth: 3.83 ft
Temp: 44.4 degrees
Wading: Dangerous
Clarity: Poor
